Expeditioning is a high-octane adventure competition where teams race the clock across a massive, secret Grid using a combination of brains, brawn, and logistics.
The only thing known beforehand is The Launch Zone (starting point).
Once the event begins, your Crew receives the first Cipher Point—a riddle or code that must be solved.
Solving the Cipher Point reveals your next Objective (a hidden location).
Once there, you will face a series of three main types of challenges:
Puzzles, riddles, or codes that unlock the next hidden location.
Tasks requiring physical skills like hiking, kayaking, or other outdoor abilities.
Tasks requiring interaction with local partners (Gatekeepers) via a Secret Phrase exchange to verify your arrival and receive the next clue.
The course is dynamic, utilizing varied travel modes (foot, car, kayak, etc.). Tier levels range from the 2-hour Scramble (local focus) to the 7-hour Crucible (regional endurance). The race involves surprise twists, skill tests, and critical thinking at every turn.
Your goal is to complete all Objectives and be the fastest Crew to the secret Finish Line to claim the High Reward.

The National Expedition League (NEL) was established in 2025 to help establish expeditioning (also known as Grid Racing) as the standardized gateway adventure, providing every American the fun opportunity to challenge their physical speed, strategic awareness, and cognitive agility in a unified competitive structure.
